To summarise we all had a great weekend at Field Place on the 16th and 17th June when LittleLEC 2018 was held. The weather, although slightly ominous at the end of Saturday and early Sunday was well behaved, much relief all round as there is nothing quite like rain to totally spoil such an outside event.
Both days were equally pleasant to run in with the winner coming from the Saturday and second and third from Sunday. The award for the best turned out locomotive also came from the Saturday contingent.
I am sure that the full results will be published in the Model Engineer magazine and I expect there will also be a report on the LittleLec website. The most memorable sight was that of the smallest locomotive ever to grace our track, that of W Powell's Canterbury Lamb that can be seen on the home page. Not only did it manage to go around our track with all its testing gradients but over its 2 runs completed an amazing 5 laps!
Many thanks to the organisers, especially to Charles Weatherly who was laid low unexpectedly earlier this year, John Elsworth who stepped into the breach at short notice and to Michael Wheelwright who orchestrated the technical aspect of the event with his usual flair and knowledge.
We also have to thank the club members who gave up thier weekend to make it such a success, particularly those who fed us with bacon rolls and burgers and the ladies in the kitchen who kept the teas, coffees, cakes and biscuits readily available and provided the lunchtime salad for all.
